‘Centre giving a boost to homoeopathy’

Two-day workshop on homoeopathy for mother and child care begins

HYDERABAD: The Centre has taken steps to expand homoeopathic system of medicine in the country, like providing financial assistance to establish model colleges in several States, including Andhra Pradesh.

This was stated by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Panabaka Lakshmi while inaugurating a two-day State-level workshop on ‘Homoeopathy for mother and child care’, organised by the Department of AYUSH, here on Monday. It forms part of a multi-media campaign to popularise homoeopathy.

She said mainstreaming of AYUSH was one of the important components of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) with the objective of reaching quality healthcare to the rural poor.

The Minister pointed out that the objective of providing homoeopathic treatment for mother and child could be achieved only when adequate homoeo health care facilities were available.

Hence, Ms. Lakshmi ‘requested’ the State to take immediate action to set up homoeopathic facilities in PHCs, CHCs and district-level hospitals, by using funds available with the department under various schemes.

Vanama Venkateshwar Rao, Minister for Vaidya Vidhana Parishad and Hospital Services, presided. S.P. Singh, Adviser to the Centre on Homoeopathy, said law would be changed to allow allopathic doctors to practice homoeopathy after undergoing six-month training. This would pave the way for wider use of this system of medicine.

Felicitated

Both the Ministers felicitated homoeo doctors -- Krishna Choudhary, N. Sudhakar Reddy, M. Kutumba Rao, Ramanath (on behalf of Bhumanna), N. Krishna Rao and Nagabushanam, former principal of J.S.P.S. Government Homoeopathic Medical College, in recognition of their services.

Earlier, K. Vijay Kumar, Secretary and Commissioner, Department of AYUSH, welcomed.
