Record demand for power on Saturday

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The State recorded the highest ever demand of 199 million units (8,166 mega watts) of power on Saturday.

However, the load on power lines suddenly dropped by Saturday evening as the demand fell following heavy rain, Power Minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir informed the Legislative Council during question hour on Monday.

He denied scheduled power cut for any of the sectors though breakdowns for technical reasons could have taken place in the last few days.

Replying to another question, Transport Minister Kanna Laksminarayana offered to lead an all-party delegation of the Legislative Council to West Bengal to study the public transport system in that State.
