dated March 25, 1958: Political life in Pakistan

On the occasion of the second anniversary of the Republic of Pakistan on March 22, Miss Fatima Jinnah criticised a “strange tendency” noticeable in the political life of Pakistan. The tendency was that “those who have themselves been guilty of rank opportunism and have been corrupting political life have started talking of principles, ideals and reforms and laying the blame for their own misdeeds and failures on others with an air of injured innocence.” Miss Jinnah, whose influence on the general public is considered second only to that of the founder of the country, her brother, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, said: “Do not be silent spectators of what is going on. You have sovereign remedy in your hands. Assert and make your voice felt through enlightened, disciplined and strong public opinion and you will surely attain your cherished goal.”
