Corrections and clarifications

A letter by Chaman Lal, New Delhi, under the heading “On Bhagat Singh” (“Letters to the Editor” column, March 24, 2008), had a sentence “It was Periyar who got the essay ‘Why I am an Atheist’ translated in Tamil by comrade P. Jivanadam in 1933.” It should have been P. Jeevanandham, who was one of the pioneers of the Communist movement in Tamil Nadu.

The first paragraph in a report “BJP ready for tie-up with AIADMK” (March 22, 2008, page 1) was “There is every indication that the Bharatiya Janata Party has agreed to share seats with the All-India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in the elections to the Karnataka Assembly.” It should have been the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

The Guardian, in its “Corrections and Clarifications” column (March 22, 2008) says “Arthur C. Clarke’s Odyssey trilogy, mentioned in his obituary, page 44, March 20, had a fourth volume added in 1997 – 3001: The Final Odyssey.” The report was reprinted in The Hindu as “The knight of science fiction” (Op-Ed, March 21, 2008).
