Dell’s low-cost notebooks

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Dell India is gearing up to introduce a new range of low-cost notebooks by next month.

“We are developing new models of notebooks catering to specific needs of Indian customers,” Dell India Vice-President and General Manager Rajan Anandan said at a press conference here on Monday.

Informing that the new range of low-cost notebooks would be launched in mid-April, Mr. Anandan said the company was looking at setting up its retail operations in tie-up with some big retailers in India to sell its range of products.

Dell India now sells its products directly to customers through Internet or over telephone.

The company was planning to raise the capacity of its computer-manufacturing plant at Sriperumbudur near Chennai in Tamil Nadu from the current four-lakh units a year, Mr. Anandan said.

“We registered an impressive 80 per cent growth in unit sales year-on-year, while the laptops segment grew by over 115 per cent. We hope to repeat this feat this year too, and soon we will become one of the major players in the Indian personal computers market,” he added.
