KOA proposes more indoor stadia and swimming pools in Bangalore

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Olympic Association has formally proposed to Bruhat Bangalore Mahnagara Palike (BBMP), the city corporation, for building four more indoor stadia and four swimming pools in the City to augment the sports facilities.

K. Govindraj, the president of the KOA, in a chat with The Hindu said, “more sports facilities are needed in the city in view of its rapid growth in recent years and there are several new localities which are bereft of such facilities.

We have suggested to BBMP that it builds four mini-indoor stadia in areas like Indira Nagar, HSR Layout, Arakavathy Layout, Basevshwara Nagar and K.R. Puram.

In addition to that, we need to have more pools. We have sent a proposal for that as well.”

Govindraj also pointed out that BBMP or the State Government need not incur the entire expenditure for building new sports infrastructure.

“There is a specific Central allocation for such works and BBMP can certainly seek Central funds for upgrading existing facilities and adding new ones,” said the KOA official.
