Special police control room to be set up for tourists Tout Act planned to put a curb on their activities NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government has requested the Delhi police to set up a special control room for tourists so that they may be able to register any kind of complaint promptly and has urged the Ministry of Civil Aviation to give out information on Delhi Tourism and ITDC facilities to the tourists through immigration and other forms for ensuring that tourists remain safe and do not fall into the hands of the touts. In order to make the Capital safer for tourists, the Delhi Government is also planning to legislate the Tout Act to put a curb on the activities of touts. The draft of the Bill is being prepared. Besides, the Delhi Police has been urged to provide more personnel for Tourist Police. Information kiosksDelhi Tourism Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely informed the Delhi Assembly this past week that information kiosks have been put up at a number of places to guide the tourists so that they are no misled by touts or unscrupulous operators. Also, he said, registration of guides and tourist agencies has been started. Since Delhi has already witnessed a huge surge in the number of tourists, up from 3 lakhs in 2006 to 5.6 lakhs in 2007, and the number is expected to swell further, especially during the Commonwealth Games in 2010, her efforts are being made to make the city safer for tourists. Various tourist sites in Delhi are also being developed or revived ahead of the Games in 2010. Mr Lovely said on the east bank of the Yamuna near Ghonda the river bed is being developed. “The blueprint for the project that would have sports facilities, walking areas and lawns without any permanent structure is being developed”.
