100 hard-core criminals surrender

JAIPUR: Over 100 persons described by the Rajasthan police as “hard-core criminals” wanted in various cases and absconding for a long time from the Kanjar Bastis around Jhalrapatan town surrendered before the police in Jhalawar on Monday. The surrender took place after the successful completion of a programme to wean the criminals away from wrongdoings.

Police sources here said that the criminals had been engaged in unlawful activities for several generations and their surrender was a “major success” of the special programme aimed at reforming professional criminals. The criminals surrendered in front of IGP (Kota Range) Utkal Ranjan Sahu and Jhalawar SP Rakesh Saxena.

As part of its community policing initiatives, the State police took up a programme in April 2006 to wean away professional criminals from committing crime.
