Expo showcases intricacies of fine arts

CHENNAI: Visitors to the painting exhibition that opened at Lalit Kala Akademi on Monday were enriched about traditional fine arts and their intricacies.

Organised by ‘Tamil Nadu Oviya Nunkalai Kuzhu’ and the State Arts and Culture Department, the exhibition showcases about 100 paintings of various senior and up and coming artists from across the State. Some of the award-winning paintings are also on display at the exhibition inaugurated by Arts and Culture Department Commissioner S.Radhakannan.

One such painting belonged to S. Marimuthu of Thanjavur who had used strands of hair as a medium of drawing for his painting. Though it looked like a pen line drawing of a horse, a closer look revealed that the images of women were put together to form the picture of the horse.

Earlier, a painting workshop for fine arts students in Chennai and Kumbakonam was organised here to motivate the talent of the students. Some of their paintings would be added in the art collection of the State Arts and Culture department, sources said.
