A testing time for SSC students

Examinations begin as rain lashes the city on the first day

Rain likely during the next 24 hours
Impostor dons the role of a squad official

VISAKHAPATNAM: Students taking the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, which began on Monday, were caught in the intermittent rain. The occasional downpour caught them unawares and many of them were drenched in the rain.

The showers, which began in the wee hours of Monday, provided a cool respite resulting in the lowering of temperatures.

Roadside hawkers and daily wage earners like pushcart vendors had to go without work. Construction workers were also affected. Though there was no damage or submersion of low lying areas, roads in some areas were under a sheet of water and puddles were seen in most areas.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of the Cyclone Warning Centre said that the city received one centimetre of rainfall till Monday evening. Rain or thunder showers is likely at many places over north coastal AP and at one or two places in south coastal AP during the next 24 hours ending Tuesday afternoon under the influence of the low pressure which had formed in the Bay of Bengal.

Isolated heavy rain is also likely at one or two places over north coastal AP during the same period.

Impostor held

An impostor, who allegedly tried to help his students in the SSC Examination, was arrested at the Municipal High School at Rammurthy Panthulupeta.

P. Balaram of Allipuram had discontinued his B. Tech studies and opened a tuition centre at Town Kotha Road. Three of his students were taking the SSC Examinations at the RP Peta High School.

Balaram hit upon a plan to ensure the success of his students in the examinations. He prepared a fake identity card to project himself as an official of the ‘flying squad’ and went to classroom where his students were taking the examination.

When he started speaking to his students and clarifying their doubts, the invigilators got suspicious and informed the police.

Fifth Town CI Venkata Rao said that the accused had admitted his guilt during the course of interrogation.

Investigation is on.
