HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has instructed officials of revenue and other departments to launch relief measures on war-footing for the people affected by the untimely rain that lashed the State in the past three days. The Chief Minister reviewed the situation arising out of the heavy rain with Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao and senior officials in the Assembly lobbies on Monday. Officials explained to him about crop loss, damages to roads and death of seven persons-one of them on Monday in Mahabubnagar- due to the rain. Briefing reporters later, the Revenue Minister said the Government would take steps to provide compensation to the affected families according to the guidelines under the Calamity Relief Fund. The district collectors had been instructed to furnish information about the losses suffered by farmers and other sections at the earliest. The Government would pay ex-gratia of Rs. 1 lakh each to families of the seven persons who were killed in rain. Heavy rain continued over coastal Andhra and Telangana regions for the third day on Monday. According to a forecast issued by the State Met Centre, heavy rain will persist on Tuesday and Wednesday too.
