Plea for concerted efforts

MADURAI: Collector S. S. Jawahar has called for coordinated efforts among Government departments to ensure timely delivery of welfare schemes to the needy. Aid to the mentally challenged should be delivered at their doorstep.
He was speaking at a training programme for parents of mentally challenged children here on Monday. He said that officials should not confine to executing programmes in their respective department but also have adequate knowledge of schemes in other departments. So far, 779 mentally challenged children were disbursed maintenance fund through the welfare board. In Madurai district, 19,650 physically and mentally challenged persons were given identity cards.
