“Industries vital to fuel growth”

MADURAI: The district administration was taking all measures to establish a Regional Office of Tamil Nadu Industrial Guidance and Export Promotion here. The administration would alsoprevail upon the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) to establish a new estate in Madurai to attract car manufacturers, Collector S.S. Jawahar has said.

He conveyed these assurances in a written message to Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) during a one-day awareness programme on Government incentive scheme organised here recently by it and District Industries Centre. These moves would fuel industrial growth and expedite the process of transition of Madurai from a “mega-village to metropolitan city.”

P. Arivanandam, Deputy General Manager, Indian Bank, said that in any economy, 90 per cent of the industrial growth was fuelled by micro, small and medium (MSM) enterprises.

Stating the credit facility was a vital lifeline to small scale industries, he urged banks to provide it at the right time. Government organisations should also help the sector through Single Window System.

The General Manager of District Industries Centre (DIC), S.A.P. Vairamani, spoke about the new policy for MSM units unveiled by the State Government recently.

The following message of the Industries Commissioner and Director of Industries, Rajiv Ranjan, written in the booklet in the new MSM policy was also read out: “Rural areas possess tremendous scope for manufacturing products from various raw materials available there. Exporting these products would provide plenty of employment in the rural sector, resulting in enhancing the rural living standards and improving the rural economy.”

Association president P.T. Krishnamoorthy urged the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to establish a branch in the district.
