APFUTA threatens to boycott varsity exam work

HYDERABAD: Demanding a hike in house rent allowance (HRA) from the existing 15 per cent to 30 per cent without any ceiling, the Andhra Pradesh Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (APFUTA) on Monday threatened to boycott university examination work in Greater Hyderabad.

APFUTA has a membership of over 2,000 professors working in Osmania University, JNTU, B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Agricultural University, Telugu University and other Government and aided degree colleges in twin cities. The faculty draws University Grade Commission (UGC) pay scales as per the Central government guidelines.

Dharnas planned

Apart from staging dharna at respective places of work on March 27, the federation members have decided to boycott degree examination valuation work and would not assist in conducting post-graduate examinations in Hyderabad, if the State government did not concede to the demands of the association before April 10, said APFUTA president B. Bucha Reddy, while addressing a press conference.

After Hyderabad was granted A-1 status, HRA and CCA of State government employees, including non-teaching staff, were revised from 15 per cent to 30 per cent.The officers belonging to all-India services who work in the State capital were also drawing enhanced HRA without any upper limit on HRA , said Mr. Reddy.

“On the other hand, the State government is contemplating to fix an HRA upper limit of Rs. 6, 000 per month for APFUTA members, which is not logical. The move is discriminatory in nature,” he charged.

APFUTA members will be submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister requesting him to resolve the issue at the earliest to avoid any inconvenience to students appearing for examinations, he added.
