100 students selected for sports scholarships

PUDUCHERRY: Around 100 students of various schools in the Union Territory have been selected for scholarships to be distributed by the Sports Authority of India for 2006-07.

These students have won in the State-level competitions for the scholarships, worth Rs.6. 60 lakh, for 2006-2007. The following is the list of a few awardees.

Athletics: A. Divya of St. Patrick Higher Secondary School; A. Ganesan of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School; and A. Glory of St. Joseph Cluny Higher Secondary School.

Badminton: Avanthi Ashok Paathi of St. Patrick Higher Secondary School; B. Naran of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School; and B. Nivedhan of St. Patrick Higher Secondary School.

Chess: N. Aparna of St. Joseph Cluny Higher Secondary School; N.G. Sneha of Alpha Higher Secondary School; and N. Sathyaraj of St. Patrick Higher Secondary School.

Judo: D.A. Suresh Benjamin of Sri Saibaba High School; I. Jaganivas of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School; and J. Palanivel of Sri Saibaba High School.

Kho-Kho: Bharathiraja and V. Vijayakumar of the Government Higher Secondary School, Indira Nagar.

Power-lifting: S. Gunavathi, D. Priyadharshini and S. Selvakumar of the Government Higher Secondary School, Indira Nagar.

Table Tennis: M. Ragela of Immaculate Higher Secondary School; and S. Surguru Nath of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School.

Takewondo: R. Bharathidasan of Jeevanandam Government Higher Secondary School; and D. Eswari and D. Parvathi of Tiruvalluvar Government Higher Secondary School.

Volley Ball: M. Gopinath of the Government Higher Secondary School, Indira Nagar; and M. Suryakumar of St. Patrick Higher Secondary School.

Weightlifting: R. Maheswari of the Holy Flower English High School.

Wrestling: A. Rahul of the Government Middle School, Bagur; D. Prem Kumar of Vivekananda Higher Secondary School; and L. Imayavaramban of Bharathi Government Higher Secondary School, Bagur.
