A festival of performance arts

A six-day international performance art festival titled “Khoj Live-08” opened in the Capital on Tuesday.

Organised by Khoj International Artists’ Association, the festival is aimed at promoting the concept of live art and performance art. Each day the festival will be held at a different venue -- Gallery Espace (Wednesday), Anant Art Gallery (Thurs day), Palette Art Gallery (Friday), Alliance Francaise de Delhi (Saturday) and Max Mueller Bhavan (Sunday).

More than 25 diverse performance artists from the United States, United Kingdom, South Africa, Germany, Egypt, France, Indonesia, Nepal, Singapore, Pakistan and the host country are taking part in the festival.

Stating that the festival was intended to showcase the different trends and possibilities of contemporary live art, Pooja Sood of Khoj International Artists’ Association says it is different from the other performance festivals that we have seen in the country so far. “We hope to provide a perspective and bring together new ideas of performance and live art from across the world to young artists, students and people of Delhi. It is a proud moment for all of us at Khoj as we complete 10 years,” she adds.

Each festival day will start with an intensive outreach programme in collaboration with Live Art U.K. and Live Art Development Agency, U.K., that will include lectures, workshops, conversations and interactions with artists and the public. With the aid of a specialised performance pack, the concepts around live art will be presented to a wider audience comprising students, artists and practitioners.

‘Open Space’

An “Open Space” for artists, musicians, actors and poets for spontaneous and impromptu performances has been created at Alliance Française de Delhi and will serve as the hub of the festival.
