New face: CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and Marxist ideologue P. Govinda Pillai looking on at the launch of a website on Mr. Pillai in the city on Tuesday. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A bi-lingual and interactive website on the life and works of Marxist ideologue P. Govinda Pillai was launched at his residence in Subhas Nagar, near Eenchakkal, here on Tuesday. The launch of the website, www.pgovindapillai.info, coincided with the 83rd birth-day of the Communist leader. The site was designed by his friends, students and well-wishers. Pinarayi Vijayan, State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), who inaugurated the website hoped that the site would provide an opportunity for people from around the world to interact with Mr. Pillai. The launch was held in the morning before a large gathering of media-persons, political leaders, neighbours and family members. The website traces the multi-faceted personality of the Communist leader, fondly referred to as ‘PG,’ from his birth into an upper middle class family in Pulluvazhi village in Perumbavoor in Ernakulam in 1926 to the present. An article written by E.M.S. Namboodirippad in 1995 that acknowledges PG’s contribution to the popularisation of Marxist ideology in the State and one by PG on E.M.S. Namboodiripad titled ‘Literary Critic and Cultural Activist’ adorn the home page of the website. His collection of books, which runs into several thousand volumes, is listed on the website. According to his friends, the website will be updated with more Malayalam content in the near future. Visitors to the site will also be able to make their contribution in the form of articles and photographs through info@pgovindapillai.info Interacting with the media persons later Mr. Govinda Pillai described the event as a “happy occasion in his life.” The inaugural function was also attended by LDF convener Vaikkom Viswan, Mayor C. Jayan Babu and district panchayat president Anavoor Nagappan.
