Resignation of State Government demanded as they failed to provide adequate water, power Chief Minister assured House that the problem would soon end; also thanked Army for their help Chandigarh: Opposition INLD led by former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala on Tuesday staged a walkout in the Haryana Assembly over the Gurgaon water crisis issue, which has been caused by a breach in the Jhajjar canal. INLD’s Sushil Indora wanted to raise the matter during Zero Hour but was disallowed by Speaker Raghubir Singh Kadian, who said they should have raised the matter on Monday or given prior notice before raising the issue. “The matter is of urgent public importance and one can raise any issue during the Zero Hour,” Mr. Indora said. At this point, INLD members, including Mr. Chautala got up, and soon there was slogan-shouting by Mr. Indora, who demanded that the State Government resign as they had “failed” to provide adequate water and power to the people. Later, the INLD member staged a walkout in protest. After they had left the House, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala assured the Assembly that water supply would be restored in Gurgaon by Wednesday. HelplinesHe said Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had already held a meeting with top officials on the issue. Over 200 tractor-tankers were doing more than 500 trips to supply water to the industrial town. Control room and helplines had also been set up where people can call and request for water tankers. Mr. Hooda informed the House that the Government is aware that it had become a “serious issue” and assured the house that the problem would end soon. They also thanked the Army for lending a helping hand by sending their water tankers. The breach was first detected in Bupnia Village on March 19, which was plugged but on March 22 a portion of the Gurgaon water canal sank leading to the crisis. — PTI
