ANANTAPUR: As expected, the ruling party leaders had the last laugh in the row over the alleged manhandling of former Minister and Congress leader G. Nagi Reddy by the now outgoing Superintendent of Police M.S. Raveendra. In a swift turn of events since March 21, Mr. Raveendra had to pay a ‘price’ for his ‘misadventure’, eventually. On the other hand, the SP had earned a reputation as the most upright officer to have headed the district police. According to official sources, Mr. Raveendra’s name did not figure in the list of IPS officers short-listed for the shuffle till Monday afternoon. However, the situation changed by the evening and Mr. Raveendra was also included in the list and was shifted to the Chief Minister’s security wing. He will be replaced by Mr. M.K. Singh. The shifting of the SP is expected give a moral edge to the local ruling party leaders over the police administration in the district, particularly at a time when elections are round the corner. After the alleged manhandling, Mr. Nagi Reddy gave vent to his feelings before the media and vowed “to see the SP’s end”. According to sources, Mr. Reddy had met the Chief Minister and the Home Minister. Minister for Panchayati Raj J.C. Diwakar Reddy, MLC Y. Sivarami Reddy and Adoni MLA were also learnt to have met Mr. Jana Reddy and urged him to shift the SP. Police sources stated that Mr. Reddy used filthy language against the SP and hence was pushed aside by another officer present there.
