Decision taken to introduce semester system at graduation level in all colleges

“Colleges should expandto increase number of new admissions by 15 p.c.”

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Governor, Balram Jakhar, has said that serious efforts should be made, rising above political lines, to improve the quality of higher education in the State.

The Governor made this assertion while presiding over a meeting of the Coordination Committee of State Universities at Raj Bhawan here. It was decided at the meeting that there should be parity in fee structure and it should be mandatory for all educational institutions to have at least 200 working days in the academic calendar for 2008-09.

It was also decided to introduce the semester system at the graduation level across all colleges. The Governor issued instructions that all vacant posts of teachers in colleges be filled on a priority basis to ensure quality education. He also called for necessary administrative reforms to improve the working of universities. State Higher Education Principal Secretary Snehlata Shrivastava said the colleges should expand their capacity and try to increase the number of new admissions by 15 per cent. She said a proposal had already been sent to the State Public Service Commission for filling 800 vacant posts in colleges. There was consensus that the fee structure should be revised to improve the standard of education.
