SHG women get financial help

VIZIANAGARAM: Cheques for Rs. 2 lakhs each were given to six self-help groups consisting of 72 disabled women from Gurla, Mentada and Garividi mandals. G. Nageswari, vice-president of Woman and Child Welfare Centre, Sreeramanagar (Garividi) said in a press release that Rehaswiss, Switzerland extended the aid under micro-credit plan. Tehsildar of Garividi G. Jayadevi gave away the cheques at a function on the WCWC premises on Monday. The beneficiaries were asked to start their own business and repay the sum in regular instalments. S. Ramprasad, project coordinator of Rehaswiss was present.

Electrocuted

Erra Poli, a toddy tapper of Bondapalli village was electrocuted when he came in contact with a live wire while tapping toddy on the NH-43 on Tuesday morning, according to the police.

ZP meet

The general body meeting of Zilla Parishad will be held at the Conference Hall from 11 a.m. on March 29, according to G. Vasudeva Rao, CEO, in a press release.

Entrance test

The entrance test for admission into 5th and 6th classes in A.P. Social Welfare/Gurukul/Tribal Ashram schools for 2008-09 will be held on May 18. The medium of teaching is English and the syllabus is CBSE, according to Y. Balaiah, District Educational Officer in a press release. Applications are available in DEO’s Office/Gurukul Schools/ ITDA, Parvathipuram, on payment of prescribed fee (SCs/STs: Rs. 10, BCs: Rs. 30 and OCs: Rs. 50). Fire accident

Home needs like refrigerators and grinders were destroyed when fire broke out at a bangles and general stores on the main road here in the wee hours of Tuesday. According to S.V. Narasimham, Assistant DFO, fire broke out in the ground floor and spread to the first floor within minutes. In addition to the two fire tenders available locally, two were deployed from Cheepurupalli and Gajapathinagaram.
