PUDUCHERRY: The police have registered cases against several activists of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) in connection with Monday’s bandh-related incidents. Cases have been registered in the Grand Bazaar and Orleanpet police stations against around 100 activists of the PMC under Sections 143 (punishment), 149 (unlawful assembly), 188 (violation of prohibitory order), 506 (for criminal intimidation) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code. Those included in the first information report included president of the youth wing of PMC Vetrivel and State general secretary of the party Janakiraman. “Cases foisted”Chief of the PMC P. Kannan told reporters that cases had been “foisted” against his supporters. He also criticised the government for trying to “cover up the attack on his car by creating an impression that it was an accident.” Expressing regrets for the inconvenience caused to the public owing to the bandh, Mr. Kannan said the party had called for the protest to highlight the prevailing law and order situation .
