Temple corpus fund crosses Rs. 100-cr. mark

Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: With His corpus fund crossing the Rs.100-crore mark this month, Lord Jagannath has become one of the richest gods on the globe. And His annual expenditure next year would be a staggering Rs.50 crores.

These financial figures came to the fore during the temple management’s meeting on Sunday chaired by the Gajapati of Puri Shri Dibya Singha Deba and attended by temple’s chief administrator Suresh Chandra Mohapatra among others.

The meeting approved the budget of Rs.50 crore set for the next fiscal year that includes Rs.1.1 crore for the annual car festival. The thrust would be on propagation of Jagannath culture and welfare of the ‘sevayats’ (people serving the temple), it was learnt.

With a number of reform measures sweeping the temple management, the corpus fund is likely to go up by about 30 per cent annually, hinted Mr.Mohapatra. The meeting emphasised conservation measures while exploring avenues to enhance revenue generation. The temple would be a gainer by about Rs.9 crores from disposal of land to the proposed Vedanta University in Puri, the chief administrator revealed.
