Minister-MLA spat in Assembly

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The running feud between Law and Technical Education Minister R. Chenga Reddy and Congress member G. Muddukrishnama Naidu, both of whom hail from Chittoor district, flared up in the Assembly on Tuesday.

Mr. Naidu blamed the Minister for dabbling with development programmes in his Puttur Assembly constituency. He referred to the Minister after serving a notice on Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy, as per rules. But, the Minister denied stalling development in Puttur, where he resided. A furious Mr. Naidu flung papers as they exchanged words.

The standoff was witnessed when Roads and Buildings Minister T. Jeevan Reddy was replying to a question by Mr. Naidu about deviation in the design for a rail-under bridge in Puttur municipality. Mr. Naidu alleged in his supplementary question that the deviation was sought to be made at the instance of the Minister. The remark kicked off angry exchanges between Mr. Naidu and Mr. Reddy.

Later, the Minister told reporters that he was at a loss to understand why Mr. Naidu had been targeting him for sometime. There is no truth in the charges levelled, the Minister said.

Mr. Reddy said he had been residing at Puttur for five decades. Local people represented their problems to him as an MLA and as Minister which he had forwarded to the Government. One of the proposals he received from public was reduction of the rail-under bridge height.
