CHANDIGARH: The prestigious 50th National Exhibition of Art is being organised by Lalit Kala Akademi at the Government Museum and Art Gallery here from this Wednesday to April 8. Akademi Secretary Sudhakar Sharma said here on Tuesday that the exhibition would be inaugurated by the Akademi’s Pro-tem Chairman Ashok Vajpeyi on Wednesday when he would also confer the National Awards on 12 artists at the auditorium of the Government Museum in Sector 10-C here. Each award consists of Rs.50,000, a copper plaque and a citation. The award winners include Ashim Pal for etching, Bijoy Kumar Basak for ink and pen on paper, B. Sadhik Basha for etching and serigraphy, Dimple B. Shah for metamorphic distillation etching, Yati Jaiswal for acrylic on canvas, Vipin Kumar Yadav for acrylic and charcoal on canvas, Vipul Kumar for black marble, Shunmuga Sundaram for water colour, Nagasamy Ramachandran for installation, Mithun Kumar Dutta for fibre and metal, Mazhar Elahi for colour photographs and Jyotirmoy De for acrylic on canvas. Mr. Vajpeyi said that in all 2,879 artists had submitted 7,388 works for the exhibition. The jury, including N. N. Rimzon, Ram Palaniappan and Arun Ghose had selected 135 works by 119 artists for display at the exhibition.
