Udupi: Deputy Commissioner P. Hemalatha released the Udupi District Credit Plan 2008-09 here on Tuesday. The plan projects an outlay of Rs. 1,433 crore, providing Rs. 404 crore to agriculture, Rs. 238 crore to small-scale industries, Rs. 410 crore to the priority sector and Rs. 381 crore to the non-priority sector. Ms. Hemalatha said that it was necessary to give importance to the growth of the industrial sector in the district. Small-scale industries should be encouraged in the interior areas, she said. Makigag presentation on the performance of the banks in the last nine months ending December 2007, Deputy General Manager of Syndicate Bank Sujir Prabhakar said that banks in the district had a deposit of Rs. 5,548 crore and had advanced Rs. 2,504 crore. During this period, the banks had disbursed loans of Rs. 1,157 crore as against the target of Rs. 894 crore. Of the Rs. 1,157 crore, they had given Rs. 243 crore to agriculture, Rs. 178 crore to small-scale industries, Rs. 246 crore to other priority sector and Rs. 489 crore to the non-priority sector. The banks had financed Rs. 237 crore to weaker sections of society, Rs. 36 crore to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and Rs. 280 crore to the minority communities. The banks had issued 17,294 Kisan credit cards involving Rs. 63 crore. A sum of Rs. 37 crore had been given to self-help groups, Mr. Prabhakar said. G. Premanath welcomed the gathering. Chief executive officer of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat N.S. Prasanna Kumar, NABARD assistant general manager Praveenraj Udupa and zilla panchayat project director Nagesh Raikar were present.
