State urged to ban online trading of gold

STIR: Goldsmiths staging a demonstration in Tirunelveli on Tuesday.

TIRUNELVELI: Members of Tirunelveli District Goldsmiths’ Protection Forum staged a demonstration here on Tuesday pressing a charter of demands, including ban on online trading of gold.

The protestors said the unorganised sector welfare board should not be merged with Revenue Department and the order released by the State Government in this regard should be withdrawn immediately.

The welfare boards should be provided with adequate manpower.

Besides increasing the pension amount to Rs. 1,000, free house site pattas should be given for the goldsmiths. District president of the forum P.S. Muthusamy, CITU district secretary R. Karumalaiyan, district general secretary of the forum S.K. Senthil were among those who spoke.
