Vehicle chased, PDS rice seized

Nagercoil: The police fired two rounds in the air on Tuesday while chasing a Kerala-bound vehicle that was smuggling rice meant for public distribution system.
A flying squad led by sub-inspector of police Sylvester arrested Babu (38) and Vins (35) of Urampu near Kollencode on the charge of smuggling 1.5 tonnes of PDS rice.
According to police sources, a police team that was conducting vehicle check at Thuckalay signalled to a vehicle to stop.
When the van driver ignored the signal, the team chased the vehicle and seized it with the PDS rice at Udhayakulamkarai in Kerala.
The team seized 1.5 tonnes of rice along with the vehicle after firing two rounds in the air.
Further investigation is going on.
