dated March 26, 1958: Indigenous medicine

The Lok Sabha on March 24 passed the Health Ministry’s demands for grants, and Prime Minister Nehru called for a “scientific approach” to the controversy between Ayurveda and the modern system of medicine. “Medicine”, said Mr. Nehru, “according to us, is one subject. We do not mind how a person treats a patient but we do feel that a person must have normal scientific education before he can treat anybody. A person who does not know what the body is composed of internally, does not know many things which are well known nowadays to modern science and is not properly qualified for any system.”
