Corrections and clarifications

In a report “Statutory status for SCW [State Commission for Women] hailed” (Tamil Nadu, March 22, 2008), K.M. Ramathal was incorrectly referred to as the NCW (National Commission for Women) chairperson. Ms. Ramathal is the Chairperson, SCW.

The caption of a standalone photograph (Andhra Pradesh edition — Chennai, March 20, 2008, page 2) was “Starry celebration — Walk Along: Union Minister of State for HRD, D. Purandeswari, film actor and chairman of Sree Vidyanikethan group M.Mohan Babu take part in the annual day celebrations of the group in Tirupati on Wednesday.” We repeat the corrections issued on September 19, 2006 and November 22, 2006, pointing out the misspelling. The name of the Minister is Ms. D. Purandareswari.

A cricket report “Eight-wicket win for Tigers” (“Sport”, March 23, 2008) said in the eighth paragraph that “A dozen boundaries to the innings and the Tigers seemed well on their way. A revised run-out verdict saw Klusener and McMillan safely take the eastern side to victory.” A reader wanted to know whether the term was right. The Sports Desk clarifies that initially, one of the batsmen was adjudged run out by the third umpire, after the decision was referred to him by the square-leg umpire. It was also displayed on the display board. However, the square-leg umpire once again spoke to the third umpire and the latter reversed his decision to “not out”. (The report was on the Kolkata Tigers eight-wicket victory over Ahmedabad Rockets in a rain-truncated match of the Indian Cricket League’s Edelweiss 20s Challenge at the Lal Bahadur Stadium, Hyderabad.)
