NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of China plans to host a conference in Beijing later this year to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi’s “historic” 1988 visit to China when he was Prime Minister. This was communicated to the Congress on Tuesday by Li Jinjun of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee at a meeting with party leaders here. In the country to attend the party conferences of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the CPI as the CPC representative, Mr. Li visited the All-India Congress Committee headquarters for the meeting. He also suggested that Rajiv Gandhi’s son, Rahul Gandhi, lead the Indian delegation for the commemorative function scheduled for September-October. Tuesday’s interaction between the CPC representative and the Congress leaders was described by Congress Working Committee member Veerappa Moily as part of the ongoing relationship between the ruling parties of the two countries.
