BCCI’s junior events reorganised

CHENNAI: There will be a reorganisation of the BCCI junior events with the under-15 and under-17 sections being replaced by the under-16 category.

Revealing the change after a Working Committee meeting of the BCCI here on Tuesday, Board Treasurer N. Srinivasan said, “From now on, there will be three sections in the age-group events — under-16, 19 and 22.”

Srinivasan also said there would be a National Schools competition. Eight or more teams will be involved in the State competitions with the top two sides qualifying for the inter-State tournaments.

Dates confirmed

The BCCI Treasurer said the dates for the future series and tours involving India were discussed and agreed upon. “After the DLF-IPL , India would tour Bangladesh for an ODI tri-series, also involving Pakistan.

India will then travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup to be held from June 24. This will be followed by the tour of Sri Lanka (three Tests and five ODIs) from mid-July to August 30.”

Srinivasan also confirmed the venues for the four-Test series against Australia at home from September 8 to October 9. Bangalore, Mohali, Delhi and Nagpur will host the Tests.

England would visit India in November for two Tests and seven ODIs, he added. The Indians will then tour Pakistan in January 2009 for three Tests and five ODIs.

India concludes a busy season with a tour of New Zealand (three Tests and five ODIs) from the last week of February.

The Finance Committee meeting of the Board was held in the morning. “We chiefly discussed the disbursal of funds from the Board for infrastructural development. This has been increased from four crore to 50 crore,” said Srinivasan.

On the controversy over Sunil Gavaskar continuing in the ICC technical panel, he said, “As far as we know, he has not been removed from any post.”

Not invited

BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah confirmed that former Indian captains Kapil Dev and Ajit Wadekar were not invited by the Board for Anil Kumble’s felicitation function.

He said the BCCI had no plans to felicitate the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team on the 25th anniversary of its achievement. — Special Correspondent
