Table Tennis
MANGALORE: The New Mangalore Port Sports Council and Major Ports Sports Control Board will jointly host the 31st All India major ports table tennis tournament, at the newly laid wooden court at NMPT Colony Gymkhana, near here from Thursday. Teams from Kandla, Mumbai, Goa, Chennai, Vishakapatnam, Paradip, Kolkata besides host New Mangalore will participate in the three-day event. Kochi, the winner and last year’s host, is not participating this year. Matches will be held in various categories including men’s singles, doubles and team championship and men’s veteran singles. Chess camp The South Kanara District Chess Association is conducting a 13-day summer chess camp for beginners from April 15.Top national players and experienced coaches will provide intensive and result oriented coaching. Children aged between 5 and 12 are eligible. A tournament will be conducted at the end of the camp for participants. The experts will also teach mind-related techniques and pranayama, according to a press release from the SKDCA. After the camp, players can continue their training in different batches. The last date for registration is April 5 and entries are restricted to 100 on a first come first serve basis. Meanwhile, South Kanara District players can register their names on or before March 30, for the State under-9 chess championship to be held in Bangalore from April 4, at the SKDCA.
