Defence staff to protest CPC recommendations

Special Correspondent

They had demanded a minimum pay of Rs.10,000

VISAKHAPATNAM: The 32 lakh Central Government employees including four lakh Defence civilian staff are shocked and disappointed to know the adverse recommendations of the VU Central Pay Commission, according to JCM member representing Defence staff, G.S.J. Atchutarao.

In a statement here on Tuesday, he said the Central Government Employees’ Federation had demanded a minimum pay of Rs.10,000 based on ‘need-based minimum wage’. However, the VI CPC had rejected the demands and recommended a meagre Rs.5,740 as minimum pay, he stated.

“It has created a division among the Group D employees in the name of qualification. While the qualified junior employee in D category will be given a minimum pay of Rs.6,600, the senior employee will get only Rs.5,470 which is almost Rs.1,000 less than junior employees. This is a great injustice which we cannot accept,” he said.

Mr. Atchutarao also said that against the demand of five per cent of the basic pay as annual increment, the CPC recommended only 2.5 per cent.

The pay scales were also fixed in an unscientific manner and the interests of the senior staff were not taken care of. It was also shocking that the CPC had violated its terms of reference and recommended for corporatisation of the 41 Ordnance factories in line with BSNL, he said.

The risk allowance paid to the deployed in risky and hazardous nature of jobs was withdrawn and so was the hospital patient care allowance given to the para medical staff and interest bearing advances like house building advance, motor cycle advance, computer advance and cycle advance, he added.

The All India Defence Employees’ Federation called upon Defence employees to immediately start protest programmes against the adverse recommendations and demanded that the Government immediately start negotiation with trade unions for implementing the recommendations on a mutually agreed basis incorporating amendments and modifications suggested by the staff, he said.
