Encourage other sports too

In response to Public Eye on tennis, Partha Chak says: “India needs mega events such as the Bangalore Open in tennis in other sports too. The other sports bodies should endeavour to create a structure for the respective sports with competition and tournaments at school, university and State levels for these sports to become popular and as a consequence attract sponsors and funds with certain help from the government for infrastructure creation. Even in games such as badminton, basketball and volley ball, a lot more can be done to improve standards to match at least the other Asian nations, leave alone international teams. What is needed is total commitment, and not excuses every time we do badly.”
