Telangana issue to come up at CPI meet

HYDERABAD: Amid pressure mounted by a section of leaders for retaining the united Andhra Pradesh stand, the 20th national congress of the CPI is set to discuss the issue on Wednesday.

The Telangana issue generated considerable heat in the party’s rank and file the moment it was incorporated in the draft political resolution of the CPI. “The demand for carving out a separate State has grown among the people of that region and taking note of the growing demand, the CPI supports formation of Telangana,” the draft resolution says.

Several leaders from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions opposed the issue questioning the basis on which the CPI could support bifurcation of the State. They moved amendments asking the party to change its stand and these will come up before the commission on the party’s draft political resolution.
