Need for unified struggle by weaker sections stressed

HYDERABAD: The AP Forum for Empowerment of Weaker Sections on Tuesday criticised the two major political parties for denying the weaker sections their due share in seats of power in proportion to their population, including nomination of candidates for the Rajya Sabha.

Kaki Madhava Rao, chairman and other leaders, at a press conference here said that although SC/STs and BCs constituted about 80 per cent of the population, they were not even getting 20 per cent of the posts.

The leaders, S. Simhadri, K. Murali Manohar, conveners, Kancha Ilaiah, spokesman, and B.S.A. Swamy, former Judge of the High Court, pointed out that lack of unity among the weaker sections was proving an hindrance in securing political power for them. The forum, they said, would strive to create awareness among the weaker sections on the need for unified struggle by them for becoming an alternative to the power centres.

To achieve this aim, the forum would organise conventions in Warangal, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda on April 12, 13 and 20 respectively. They stressed the importance of all castes getting due representation in legislatures and Cabinets for ensuring social justice.
