BANGALORE: The alleged murder-cum-suicide incident involving the married couple Rinku Sachdev and Amith Budhiraj took another twist with Rinku’s father alleging that Amith was mentally unstable. Mr. Harish Sachdev charged Amith with distrusting Rinku and not communicating with her. The 28-year-old Rinku was on Saturday allegedly smothered to death by Amith, who later committed suicide. Rinku was working as a customer service manager in Standard Chartered Bank while Amith was a software engineer with Infosys. Reading a statement to reporters on Tuesday, Mr. Sachdev said he had met his daughter two weeks ago in Muscat where she had told him that her marriage was not working. She also wanted to consult a marriage counsellor. Rinku even contacted Amith’s sister and said she was contemplating divorce. Mr. Sachdev alleged that his daughter was mentally tortured. He said Amith had written the suicide note only to save his reputation and the credibility of the family. “I just wanted to clarify reports in a section of media, which look one-sided,” Mr. Sachdev said. Amith’s relatives on Monday said they did not have any indication of strain in the couple’s marital relationship.
