Anna’s adopted son commits suicide

CHENNAI: Former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai’s adopted son C.N.A. Parimalam allegedly committed suicide at his residence on Avenue Road, Nungambakkam, here on Tuesday. He was 67. He is survived by two sons, Malarvannan and Sowmyan, and daughter Illavarasi. His wife, Saroja, died a few years ago.

According to family members, Dr. Parimalam, who had been ailing for some months, was admitted to a private hospital 10 days ago. He was discharged on Monday evening.

Family members, unable to find him at home around 11.30 p.m. on Monday night, informed the Nungambakkam police. Fire and Rescue Services personnel were also pressed into service around 1.30 a.m. The body was recovered from a 30-foot well at 4.30 a.m. It has been sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem.

The Nungambakkam police have registered a case of unnatural death.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, accompanied by senior ministers Arcot N. Veeraswami, Durai Murugan and Veerapandi S. Arumugam, visited Dr. Parimalam’s residence to pay homage.

AIADMK tributes

All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam presidium chairman S. Madhusudanan and party functionaries Sulochana Sampath, N. Balaganga and P.K. Sekarbabu paid tributes.
