ALAPPUZHA: Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised a commotion while a review meeting chaired by Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran was in progress at the Rice Research Centre, Mancombu, here on Wednesday. The BJP activists, who started shouting slogans after one of their spokespersons spoke against the government’s “delay” in providing succour to the beleaguered paddy farmers in Kuttanad, were arrested and removed from the spot by the police. The activists, around in 20 in number, started shouting slogans alleging that promises made to farmers during similar meetings convened by Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran and Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and assurances given by Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran were not kept. They also staged a sit-in in front of the centre before being removed by the police.
