MALAPPURAM: Two men who snatched newly-purchased gold jewellery from a couple at Edappal were arrested by the police after a long and dramatic chase on Wednesday. Three policemen suffered injuries while trying to overpower the fugitives. One of the arrested was wanted in connection with several theft cases. Kunnanveettil Asgar Ali, 34, from Koottilangadi, and Rasheed, 28, from Seena Manzil, Chavakkad, were overpowered by the Highway Police at Koottanad after a long chase. They escaped in a car with the jewellery they snatched from Moideenkutty and Suleikha at Edappal. The attempts of the local people to prevent the men from escaping failed. The police chased them for over 30 km, and could overpower them after their vehicle collided with an autorickshaw at Koottanad. Suffer injuriesAssistant sub-inspector Rajan and constables Sasi and Sudheer were admitted to different hospitals with injuries. The police said 11 ATM cards, two credit cards, and two permanent account number (PAN) cards were recovered from Asgar Ali.
