Kharge invited to contest from Chincholi constituency

BIDAR: Bidar district Congress observer and All India Congress Committee member Narayanappa on Wednesday said that he had invited Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections from Chincholi Assembly segment falling under the Bidar parliamentary constituency.

He told a press conference here that Mr. Kharge was the party’s State unit president and “let him decide on the offer.”

Chincholi Assembly segment has become a reserved segment after the delimitation of Assembly constituencies in the State. Chincholi is in Gulbarga but forms part of the Bidar parliamentary segment. Mr. Kharge represented Gurmitkal Assembly constituency in the previous House.

However, that constituency has become history after the recent delimitation exercise.

Mr. Narayanappa said that the Congress had consolidated its position in the district.

He had come to the district to assess the situation of the party prior to the elections and to know on the candidates’ potential before fielding them for the elections.

He said that “many aspirants have expressed their desire to contest the polls but it will be the party high command which will take a final decision.” He would submit his assessment report soon.

The observer said that issuing applications to aspirants would start after the announcement of the date of elections.

He expressed the confidence that the “"Congress will win at least six of the eight Assembly seats in Bidar parliamentary constituency.”

Bidar District Congress unit president V.K. Patil and district unit spokesperson Anand Devappa were present.
