Expedition flagged off

NEW DELHI: The Border Security Force Mountaineering Expedition-2008 to Mount Kanchenjunga was flagged off from here on Wednesday by BSF Director-General A. K. Mitra.
The team comprises 25 members. They include 12 climbers, nine support members, one communication officer, two medical officers and one para-medic. Assistant Commandant N. S. Satish Chander Nair is the leader of the team.
Tentatively the team plans to scale the summit of Mount Kanchenjunga by the third or fourth week of May.
Wishing good luck to the mountaineers, Mr. Mitra recalled that the BSF had launched its first mountaineering expedition in 1978 and since then various teams had scaled 30 difficult peaks including Mount Everest. “Such expeditions are essential for promotion of qualities like courage, comradeship and perseverance under challenging conditions among the men,” he added.
