Slashing of import duty flayed

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kera Karshaka Sangham has come out against the slashing of the import duty on edible oils and the ban imposed on the export of coconut oil by the Centre. N.D. Ramachandran Nair, leader of the Sangham, said here on Tuesday that the import duty on raw edible oil had been reduced from 45 to 20 per cent. Duty on refined edible oil was brought down from 52.5 to 27.5 per cent. It was for the fifth time in the last eighteen months that the Centre was reducing the import duty.
