Budget session to continue till May 14

CHENNAI: The Budget session of the Assembly will go on till May 14, Speaker R. Avudaiappan said on Wednesday.

Briefing reporters on the decision taken at the business advisory committee meeting earlier, he said according to the latest schedule, the budget discussion would conclude on April 2 with the Finance Minister’s reply.

As the current session was suspended on Monday and Tuesday following Ministers’ tour to rain-hit districts, the revised schedule was drawn up. The demands for grants to various departments would be taken up from April 3. That day, the debate would be on the departments of Electricity and Personnel and Administrative Reforms.

On April 4, Agriculture would be taken up. April 8 - Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection; April 9 - Home, Prohibition-Excise (Motor Vehicles Acts - Administration) and Transport; April 10-Public Works (Buildings and Irrigation); April 11 - Home, Prohibition-Excise (Prisons), Revenue and Housing-Urban Development; April 15 and 16 - Municipal Administration-Water Supply and Rural Development-Panchayat Raj; April 17 - Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare; April 21 - Industries and Information Technology; April 22 - Law; April 23 - Public Health and Family Wefare; April 24 - School Education; April 25 - Higher Education; April 28 - Highways; April 29 - Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, Commercial Taxes, Stamps and Registration; April 30 - Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries; May 5 - Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme; May 6 - Labour-Employment and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments; May 7-Handlooms, Handicrafts, Textiles and Khadi and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises; May 8 - Tourism-Culture, Information-Publicity and Stationery-Printing; May 9 and 12 - Home, Prohibition-Excise (Police, Fire-Rescue Services and Prohibition and Excise); May 13 - Environment-Forests, Youth Welfare-Sports Development, Public and Tamil Development and May 14 - State Legislature, Governor-Council of Ministers, Finance, Planning, Development-Special Initiatives and Pension-Other Retirement Benefits.
