Supercomputing facility inaugurated at DRDO lab

HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Defence M. M. Pallam Raju inaugurated the Centre for High Performance Computing and Research (CHITRA) at the Advanced Numerical Research and Analysis Group (ANURAG), a DRDO laboratory, here, on Wednesday.

CHITRA was one of the fastest high performance computing facilities in the country, according to K.D. Nayak, Director of ANURAG. It would be useful in CFD design for aircraft and airborne systems, simulation of complex systems, molecular modelling and bio-informatics applications.

Congratulating the scientists, the Minister appreciated the contribution of ANURAG in high performance computing and VLSI design.

He lauded its efforts in the development of indigenous microprocessors and various systems on chip (SoC) configurations and associated system software.

Going commercial

Stressing the need for exploring commercial exploitation of indigenous processors and technologies, he hoped the government would provide incentives for R & D organisations.

Mr. Nayak said ANURAG had been involved in development of supercomputers since its inception in 1988. The PACE series of parallel computers developed by ANURAG were being used in many DRDO laboratories and premier educational institutions.
