Lay siege to Collectorate; seek budgetary allocation for the downtrodden

ANANTAPUR: Some 400 activists of the CPI (M) and its frontal organisations were arrested by the police for picketing the Collectorate for more than three hours here on Wednesday.

They were demanding due share in land and budgetary allocation to the poor and downtrodden. Functioning of the Collectorate was also affected as the protesters did not allow the employees to enter the office. The protested was staged under the aegis of Praja Sanghala Aikya Vedika.

Speaking on the occasion, Vedika leaders said the government had neglected several sections, which were eking out a living depending on various rural and unorganised vocations.

The party workers staged a ‘rasta roko’ at Sapthagiri Circle protesting the arrests and dharnas were also held in front of the rural and one town police stations demanding release of the arrested persons. The arrested persons were released on personal surety.

Skits enacted

Special Correspondent from Kurnool writes: CPI(M) activists stormed the Collectorate here as part of the state-wide call.

They raised slogans and enacted skits displaying how the poor and weaker sections were deprived of their due share in the budget.

CITU State secretary Ajay Kumar, led the protest.
