Smart Cards launched in Transport Department

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday launched a Smart Card initiative of the Transport Department. The Smart Cards are an advancement over the plastic cards as they come with a computerised chip embedded in them. This will help an RTA officer access the entire driving history of the licence holder as it is linked to the transport server. The web-enabling of 54 RTA services was also launched by Dr. Reddy.

It would increase the capability of the department as it would be networked with the web, said Transport Commissioner Poonam Malakondaiah.

Transport Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana said soon, the 550 posts sanctioned at the level of Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVI) and Assistant MVI would be filled.
