dated March 27, 1958: Technical education

The All-India Council for Technical Education which ended its deliberations in New Delhi on March 25 has recommended the establishment of nine engineering colleges and 27 new polytechnics during the current Plan period. The colleges will be located regionally, two in the eastern region, two in the western region, two in the southern region and three in the northern region. The 27 polytechnics will be distributed regionally, seven in the eastern region, five in the western region, seven in the southern region and eight in the northern region. They will be distributed Statewise as follows: West Bengal three, Bihar two, Assam one, Orissa one, Bombay three, Madhya Pradesh two, Madras two, Mysore two, Andhra two, Kerala one, Uttar Pradesh three, Punjab three, and Rajasthan two.
