Guide on livestock care released

PUDUKOTTAI: A guide on livestock care was released at a cattle protection awareness camp organised by the Animal Husbandry Department and the Tamil Nadu Veterinary Animal Sciences University here recently.
Speaking after releasing the guide, Collector D. Uthirakkumaran said that about 6.70 lakh animals had been protected through vaccination programmes and preventive measures to check the incidence of common diseases including foot-and-mouth, Black quarter besides unforeseen outbreak of epidemics.
He said that the guide contained details about different diseases such as blue-tongue, bird-flu and appealed to the livestock growers to protect their livestock by strictly adhering to the guidelines stipulated in it.
The awareness camps were being held in all the blocks in the district, he added.
Assistant Professor from the University A. Paramasivam and Assistant Director of Animal Husbandry K. Ramakrishnan were among those who spoke.
